Hydro demolition – Dalderse WWTW Digester Access Works

Client: Scottish Water
Works commenced: March 2025

Water Treatment

Aquaforce Concrete Services was engaged to carry out specialist hydro demolition works at the Dalderse Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) near Falkirk on behalf of Scottish Water.

The scope of works involved creating 2.5m x 2.0m manway access hatches through the existing 0.8m thick, heavily reinforced concrete digester tanks on site.
Access to the tanks was required to enable survey teams to undertake detailed condition surveys prior to the decommissioning of the tanks.

In order to maintain programme timescales, Aquaforce worked closely with the client to plan an approach that would deliver precise results while managing the risks associated with confined-space and wastewater environments and critically, minimize downtime of the asset.

Our team mobilised to site with specialist hydro demolition equipment and a mobile water treatment unit from Aquaforce’s own fleet.

In addition to concrete removal, Aquaforce operatives were tasked with cutting through the heavily congested reinforcement steel surrounding the openings. This critical step provided the necessary clearance for the scaffolding team to gain access and begin installation of the internal scaffolding structures within the digesters. Once complete, survey teams were able to safely enter and carry out their inspection works.

The works were completed within programme constraints, and to high standards of safety and within budget.

By combining hydro demolition expertise with on-site water treatment and effective coordination with other contractors, Aquaforce ensured that the works were delivered seamlessly, allowing the wider decommissioning programme to remain on schedule.
